Our Attitude Determines Our Altitude
At For the Love of Systems, we often find ourselves talking with clients about “how you show up for your business”, which is just your “attitude” toward your business and team.
In aviation, attitude refers to how an aircraft moves through the air, specifically the orientation of the aircraft to the horizon. Pilots continuously manipulate the components of attitude–pitch, roll, and yaw–to ensure their aircraft maintains a safe and stable orientation to the horizon no matter the flight conditions.
Similarly, business owners have to manage the components of their attitude--acceptance, interoception, and empathy--to maintain progress toward their business goals. It’s not just about them leveraging positive thinking, either. It’s also about the angle of their approach to the current situation and the degree of psychoemotional pressure they can withstand.
Let’s be honest though and admit that it’s incredibly difficult to show up for every situation with the perfect attitude–especially when our attitudes have gotten us into situations that we’d rather not be in! But still, if our attitude gets us into a mess, it can likely get us out of it, too.
So, what do we mean when we talk about showing up for your business? We mean finding the horizon, grabbing the controls, and adjusting your attitude into one that will keep your business–and everyone in it–in the air and on track toward your goals.
Figuring out how to do this can be hard though, and that’s exactly why we added the Habit Story assessment to our services. Having an understanding of how you’re showing up is the first step in changing it, and we absolutely love coaching business owners (and their teams!) through how to make changes in this area.
